Based on OpenEduCat's documentation and pricing page, OpenEduCat is the most transparent school ERP on our list and the only one you can run for free. It is built on Odoo. The open-source edition is free under the LGPL v3 licence: you download it, host it on your own server and change the code. The page does not say what support, if any, comes with it.
The paid plan is build-your-own. A Core platform is required at $489 a year, about ₹46,440 excl. GST at ₹94.97/$ (≈ ₹54,799 incl. 18% GST). A two-year term costs $978 and includes a free third year; a one-time on-premise licence costs $1,319. You then add modules priced from $79 to $599 a year each, a user pack, and optionally mobile apps. As a worked example from the price list: Core plus Admission, Attendance, Fees and Timetable ($160 each), Exam ($79) and a 500-user pack ($349) comes to $1,557 a year, about ₹1,47,868 excl. GST, before apps. The Android app adds $889 a year and the iOS app $1,179. That is more than Fedena's $999 Standard plan, so the free edition is the real draw. Cloud or on-premise deployment is included in every paid plan, and there is a 15-day free trial with no card needed.
The module catalogue is wide: 54 products, including transportation, library, LMS, live classroom, OMR, face-recognition attendance, a WhatsApp integration ($499/year), Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Moodle. What it lacks for Indian schools is local detail. Prices are listed in US dollars; the page says India pricing is applied at checkout but shows no amounts. There are no CBSE, ICSE or state-board report card formats, no UPI or Tally mention, and no Indian office or support hours on the site. The footer names OpenEduCat Inc., and we could not confirm where the company is based.
It ranks #8 because fit for Indian schools scores 5.8 even though value scores 7.2. It suits a school group with an IT team or an Odoo partner that wants to own its code and data. A school without technical staff will spend more time configuring it than using it; onboarding service hours are sold separately, from $1,379.
